Breaking The Mold

Some lives make history with headlines. Others quietly change the world one family, one friendship, and one act of integrity at a time.

John and Marsha were two ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives—not because of wealth, fame, or influence, but because they chose character over convenience, faith over fear, and family above all else. Together they built a home where honesty mattered, hard work was expected, kindness was freely given, and love was demonstrated far more often than it was spoken. Their legacy lives on in four children, grandchildren, and countless friends whose lives were shaped by their example.

Their story began by breaking the mold. Marsha was raised in a close-knit Syrian Orthodox family whose roots reached back to immigrants who came to America seeking freedom and opportunity. Traditionally, Syrian daughters married within the Syrian community. John came from an American family with Scottish and Welsh ancestry. When these two college students fell in love, they crossed cultural expectations with courage and conviction. Instead of following the path others had planned for them, they chose the life they believed God was calling them to build together. In time, Marsha’s family embraced John with open arms, and that decision became the first chapter of a remarkable marriage that lasted a lifetime.

Looking back, that willingness to thoughtfully break the mold became a defining thread throughout our family. John and Marsha taught their children to think for themselves, to pursue truth with humility, to work hard, to live within their means, and to treat every person with dignity and respect. As adults, all four of us would eventually make our own life choices—including following different spiritual paths than the Catholic faith in which we were raised. While our journeys became uniquely our own, the values our parents planted never changed. Integrity. Responsibility. Compassion. Faith. Family. Those gifts continue to shape our lives today.

This website is a celebration of two remarkable people whose greatest accomplishments cannot be measured by possessions or professional titles, but by the lives they touched and the family they nurtured. Through photographs, stories, memories, and milestones, I invite you to meet John and Marsha—two humble souls who proved that a life well lived is the greatest legacy anyone can leave behind.
